A personal ride and a ride at an event: the difference
The recording is the same — the difference is the event binding: it enables the live map, the track review, and SOS.
The recording is the same in both cases: any run becomes a ride in the “My activity” log. The difference is in the event binding.
A personal ride has no event: riding for yourself. It gets a movie, counts toward your season kilometers and the vehicle’s engine hours. Nobody sees your position during it.
A ride bound to an event (an outing, a training session, a race) additionally becomes your track at it: during the run, the organizer and the safety crew see your marker on the live map, at a race the track takes part in the comparison against the reference route, and the SOS button knows whom to alert.
The binding is usually automatic — if the recording was started from the event screen or the watch was transmitting to it. But you can set and remove it manually at any moment, retroactively included: see “Binding a ride to an event”.
