Apple Watch: EF Live on the watch

Connects with one button, no code. Tap “Start” on the watch — it transmits position, speed, elevation, and heart rate, and the ride appears in the log at the finish.

EF Live for Apple Watch is an app on the watch itself: during a ride it transmits your position, speed, elevation, and heart rate to the event’s live map, and at the finish the ride appears in your log. The iPhone can stay in a tail bag — the watch keeps GPS and heart rate running like a regular workout, and reaches the network through the phone nearby, Wi-Fi, or LTE (Cellular models — even without an iPhone). Requires an Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or newer (Series 4, SE and newer).

EF Live for Apple Watch is currently in beta (TestFlight). The watch app will appear in the App Store together with the next ENDURO.FAMILY update.

Step 1. Put EF Live on the watch

  1. The watch app installs together with ENDURO.FAMILY on the iPhone. On the phone, open the Watch app → “My Watch” → the “Available Apps” section at the bottom → EF Live → Install. If automatic installation is on, it appears within a couple of minutes.

Step 2. Connect the watch to your account

  1. In the ENDURO.FAMILY app: Settings → Devices → Apple Watch → “Connect Apple Watch”. No code to enter — the app sends the key to the watch.
  2. The app asks for consent to store heart rate (it is health data) — without it the watch transmits only position, speed, and elevation.
  3. Open EF Live on the watch: if the screen says “Watch not connected”, tap “Request from iPhone” with the phone nearby.

Step 3. The ride

  1. Tap “Start” on the watch. On the first launch, the watch asks for access to Health (heart rate) and to location — allow both on the watch itself.
  2. On the screen: time, heart rate, speed, distance, a GPS line, and a transmission line (“Sent 18:22 · event” means the points are already on your event’s live map). If the connection drops, points accumulate in a buffer and go out when the connection returns.
  3. “Stop” → “Finish” — the watch sends the remainder and marks the finish; the ride appears in the app’s log (without a phone in the recording — within a couple of minutes).

If something is off

  1. The transmission line says “No connection” with the phone nearby — check whether a VPN is running on the iPhone — it cuts the watch off from the network. Turn off the VPN or connect the watch to Wi-Fi. The “Connection check” screen (in EF Live on the watch, when it isn’t connected) has two lines: “Internet” and “EF server” — they show where the break is.
  2. “Watch unlinked” — the device was unlinked in the app: tap “Reconnect” under “Settings → Devices → Apple Watch”.
  3. Heart rate not showing — on the watch: Settings → Health → Apps → EF Live, allow heart-rate reading; in the app — the “Store heart rate from watch” toggle.

How heart rate gets into the ride card and the coach’s breakdown — in “Heart rate and zones”; how a ride binds to an event — in “Binding a ride to an event”.
