Why the app is slower with a VPN

Our servers are in Russia. A VPN routes your traffic abroad and back, so every request takes the long way around.

ENDURO.FAMILY servers are located in Russia — required by data-protection law, and fastest when riding without a VPN. With a VPN on, every request travels phone → VPN server abroad → back to Russia. Data crosses the border twice, and screens that normally load in a fraction of a second can take several.

Global services don’t feel this: their servers are spread worldwide, so there’s almost always one next to your VPN exit. “Everything else is fast, this app is slow” is geography, not a bug.

  1. The most effective fix — turn the VPN off while riding: track recording, the live map and the feed run at full speed.
  2. On Android you can be precise: find split tunneling in your VPN app settings and exclude ENDURO.FAMILY — the VPN stays on for everything else.
  3. On iPhone per-app exclusions depend on the VPN client — look for “exceptions” or “direct routes” in its settings.
Your track is safe either way: recording works offline and doesn’t depend on network speed — a slow connection only delays the live map and the feed.
